Calling all aspiring junior chefs!  

The Plant S Nutrition – Junior Development Chef Competition 2025 challenges you to create three bite-sized items, each featuring a different Plant S flour as listed below. The competition is over two parts this year, to add more excitement! 

We are looking for our next ‘Plant S Junior Development Chef 2025 Winner’. 

Both parts of our competition have a 1st Place prize of £150.00 Amazon Voucher, plus Plant S goods.  There are also two runners-up prizes for part 1 and part 2.  Students will double their chances if they enter both parts! 

Part 1

Opens 24.3.25  – Closing date 22.5.25

Part 2

Opens 1.10.25 Closing date 17.11.25

Plant S Flours to be used for both competitions;

  • Plant S Gluten Free Yellow Pea Flour 
  • Plant S Wholegrain Rye Flour 
  • Plant S Gluten Free Oat Flour

Competition Guidelines

Each picnic item must be bite-sized, cold-served, and transportable. Not shown on or in plastic. We are a sustainable company. All three items should be equal in size. Your selection must include sweet and savoury options across the three items, i.e. each entry of three must have at least one savoury or one sweet item using any of the flours. (i.e. not all three savoury).  

Submission Details: Deadline: 22nd May 2025

Format

All entries must be submitted via email by your tutor by the submission deadline. These should all be sent to julie.sammells@plants-nutrition.com. Late entries will be disqualified.

Presentation

Arrange all three items on one plate, using a simple garnish, provide clear, good-quality photographs. Birdseye view (above) side angle to show depth and close up for colour and texture. 

Recipe Documentation

Submit a typed tutor checked recipe for each item, including:

  • Ingredients & Measurements
  • Method
  • Preparation & cooking/chilling time
  • Allergens present (i.e. nuts, shellfish, gluten(rye) dairy) 
  • Calories (optional)
  • A short explanation of your inspiration behind each creation. Entries name, college and year group.
  • Please note:  The food does not have to be gluten free, vegan or vegetarian. This is for a general picnic but consider your possible audience.
  • You can mix flours to create your items, the inclusion and quantity of Plant S flours is key.

Judging Panel & Criteria

A panel of working professionals from Plant S will judge the competition: 

  • Use of Ingredients – How well each flour is incorporated
  • Flavour – Balance and taste of each creation (winners will re-create for final round in November)
  • Appearance – Visual appeal and presentation, photos are important to demonstrate your creations
  • Creativity & Originality – Flavour combinations and concept

Prizes

Picnic Competition 1st Prize

  • Amazon Voucher £150.00 to the winning student
  • Certificate of achievement/small trophy
  • Small picnic rucksack for two.
  • 3 x Plant S flours and apron

All entries will be featured on socials and shared to colleges, used for publications/local newspaper, featured on Plant S Instagram, LinkedIn coverage and Plant S Website.

  • £25 Amazon Voucher

  • Apron

Rules & Eligibility

  • Each student must be registered with the college at the start of competition and after the closing date. Only one entry of three items per student, per part of the competition. 
  • Spring/Summer (24.3.25 – 22.5.25) & Autumn Winter (01.10.25 – 17.11.25). 
  • Students aged between 16-19yrs.
  • Follow all competition guidelines, format, presentation, and recipe documentation.
  • Students must be attending the college as learners.
  • No employees or affiliates of Plant S Nutrition may enter. College tutors and staff are not eligible to participate. 
  • Plant S decision is final. There is no cash alternative for the prize. Students by entering, allow their name and recipes to be used by Plant S, in whichever way they see fit. Publications, media platforms, literature, exhibitions etc. All rights reserved by Plant S.
  • Winning students and their tutors must make themselves available for photographs and certificate presentation.
  • A trophy/plaque will be awarded to the overall Junior Development Chef 2025 winner, for the college to display for the year of winning. Then it is collected and passed to the next college for the following year.
  • Socials should be shared across all platforms from each college and the tutor Chef/s to raise awareness. Tagging Plant S in each post. All student’s recipes will be shown on our platforms, after the competition mentioning the college each time. 
  • Minimum Student Entries for both parts of competition – 10 Students.  
  • Students can enter again for the Autumn-Winter competition – Seasonal Buffet Bites (Winter/Christmas) following the same guidelines, however, can be hot or cold bites.
  • Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd  place for part 1 and part 2 of the competition.
  • There will be ONE overall winner from both competitions who will take the title; 
    Plant S – Junior Development Chef 2025.
  • The Overall winner decided from all entries will be announced on the 1st December 2025. Certificate and Prizes to be awarded once arranged with the college.
